Basic Rules of Rallying

Safety on the Rallye



As you drive this rallye, please remember that rallye cars are not the only ones on the road. When creeping into an Inmarker, stay as far to the right as possible and do not block normal road traffic. If a faster car overtakes you, especially on a winding road, allow it to pass safely. If you are the faster car, wait for a safe opportunity to pass, and don't blind those in front of you with high-powered head lamps
.

A rallye is NOT something to risk life and limb over, yours or anyone else's.

Mileages



All mileages provided in these routes are given in statute miles. Mileages based on the Rallyemaster's measurements have been corrected for odometer error as best as possible.

Course Controls



Course Controls may be MANNED or UNMANNED. If MANNED, stop and have your Control Card signed by a rallye worker. If UNMANNED, enter the information in the appropriate Course Control box on your Control Card and also report the information to the course worker at the appropriate STANDOFF or INMARKER.

Unless otherwise indicated, you may enter and leave Course Controls in any direction.

You will incur a 2.00 minute penalty for each Course Control missed. Missing a Control includes providing an incorrect answer for an UNMANNED control. The penalty will be assessed on the leg on which you must report the information. If a Course Control is listed as not applying to your class, then it DOES NOT EXIST for you, and you will not be assessed a penalty for either missing it or passing through it. If you encounter a MANNED Course Control stop and check in in any case. Course controls will be indicated on the maps by the letters CC.

Standoff



You are required to stop and check in at each STANDOFF. Hand the STANDOFF worker your Control Card so that it can be initialed and your arrival time recorded on the log.

Additional information may be available at Standoffs. It is up to you to ask for and obtain it. 2.00 minutes have been allotted at Standoffs to get the Inmarker sighting and any other relevant information.

Unless otherwise indicated by these instruction or by course workers, stopping past the STANDOFF SIGN will incur a penalty to be determined by the checkpoint captain. Standoffs will be indicated on the maps by the letters SO.

Inmarker



You are required to stop at each Inmarker. 1.00 minute has been allotted at each Inmarker to get your time recorded on your control card. Please do not interfere with another contestant's in-time. If a checkpoint worker determines that you have interfered with another contestant's valid in-time, you will be penalized. This penalty could result in your disqualification.

For this rallye, an Inmarker area is defined as the area on the Imarker road (the road where the timing box is located) between the two paved roads on either side of the Inmarker (upcourse and downcourse of the Inmarker) whether it is within sight of the Inmarker or not.

START Control: Santa Barbara - All Contestants

Control: START is located at the South side of RUSTY'S PIZZA in the Storke shopping plaza, exiting to STORKE RD. Your START time will be 4:00 P.M. plus your car number in minutes (First car starts at 4:01 P.M.). Please get in line 5 minutes before your scheduled START time. You must be logged out by the Start Control Worker or you will incur a maximum penalty for Leg 1.

 

Leg ONE: Foothill


True Time: 0:55.75

Maps: 1, 2

Standoff: On FOOTHILL RD., 3.63 miles East of the intersection of FOOTHILL RD. and WELLS RD. , or 0.63 miles East of the intersection with WHEELER CYN. RD. Enter the Standoff heading East.

Inmarker: Inmarker is on SANTA PAULA ST. Enter the Inmarker from the NorthEast.

 

Leg TWO: Bardsdale Maze


True Time: 1:24.65

Standoff: Is located at the intersection of BARDSDALE AVE. and SESPE ST. Enter the Standoff from the East.

Inmarker: Inmarker is on one of the following roads:

RIVERSIDE AVE.
PASADENA AVE.
BARDSDALE AVE., West of SESPE ST.
VENTURA ST.
SANTA PAULA ST.
SESPE ST.
HUENEME ST.
SAN CAYETANO ST.

Enter the Inmarker heading West or South.

 

Course Control A: Expert Class Only

Turn in at: Inmarker 3

Control: On BALCOM CYN RD., 1.4 miles South of the intersection of that road and SOUTH MOUNTAIN RD. is paddle marker VC 6.00. On the BACK of the paddle marker is a letter. The letter is most easily visible while heading North on BALCOM CYN RD. Report this letter as your control.

 

Leg THREE: Priced to Sell

Standoff: Standoff is on PRICE RD., 1.05 miles North of the intersection of PRICE RD. and LOS ANGELES AVE. (CA HWY 118). Enter the Standoff from the South.

Inmarker: Inmarker is on LA LOMA AVE. Enter the Inmarker heading toward PRICE RD.

 

Course Control B: Expert and Regular Class Only

Turn in at: Inmarker 4

Control: At the intersection of BROADWAY RD. and CA HWY 23, a letter is posted on the STOP SIGN post. The letter is most easily visible while entering the intersection from BROADWAY RD.

 

Leg FOUR: Bardsdale Maze, The Sequel

Standoff: Is located at the intersection of BARDSDALE AVE. and SESPE ST. Enter the Standoff from the East.

Inmarker: Inmarker is on one of the following roads:

Course Control C: Expert and Regular Class Only

Turn in at: REGULAR: Inmarker 5 - EXPERT: Inmarker 3

Control: A letter is posted on a street sign post at the SouthWest corner of the intersection of SOUTH MOUNTAIN RD. and SOUTH MOUNTAIN (LEMON) (the road to the Mountain View Golf Course). Report this letter as your control.

 

Leg FIVE: How High Ojai?


True Time: 3:11.35

Maps: 2, 4

Standoff: Standoff is located on CALIFORNIA HWY 150, 13.27 miles North of the intersection of CA HWY 150 and CA HWY 126. Enter the Standoff heading towar the town of OJAI.

Inmarker: Inmarker is located on THATCHER RD. or FORDYCE RD. Enter the Inmarker heading West or South.

Notes: Standoff is at an overlook turnout on the LEFT side of the road, about 0.3 miles past a CURVE 25 MPH sign. There is limited room for parking at this Standoff. If necessary, there is turnout room past the Standoff on the right. We ask that you limit your time at this standoff.
You may stop at any point on CA HWY. 150 or on REEVES RD. with no penalty. Please be careful of other traffic if you do stop.

 

Leg SIX: It's Right Here


True Time: 3:56.45

Standoff: Standoff is on CA HWY 150, 0.12 miles SouthWest of the intersection of CA HWY 150 and CA HWY 192. Enter the Standoff heading generally West.

Inmarker: Inmarker is on GUBERNADOR CYN RD. or on CA HWY 192. Enter the Inmarker heading toward the CA HWY 150.

 

Finish Control: Reindeer Room


True Time: 4:40.00

Maps: 2

Notes: The finish control is located at The Reindeer Room of NICK'S STEAK HOUSE.

To get to the finish control from Inmarker 6, continue on the Inmarker road until you reach CA HWY 150. Turn right, continue West on Hwy 150 through the Standoff area. Please drive slowly through the Standoff area. There is no need to check in again on your second time through the Standoff.

Continue on HWY 150 to enter US HWY 101 Northbound. Exit HWY 101 at SANTA CLAUS LANE. Turn left at the end of the off ramp and left again at the first opportunity onto SANTA CLAUS LANE. Proceed about 0.4 mile to see NICK'S STEAK HOUSE on the right. The Finish Control will be in the REINDEER ROOM to the right of the main entrance.
You must turn in your completed control card at this control. You will be penalized one point for each minute you are late turning in your card at this control.

There is no penalty for checking in early.
